MSc Thesis WUR: Scenario-analyse kostenbesparing versus milieu-impact, Proteus Smart Display case.
This research contains three steps; namely, the identifcation of scenarios together with an Excel calculation tool for the rotation and costs per display and a life-cycle assessment of some scenarios. We find that all scenarios result in lower cost per display with an obvious rotation higher than its full-cardboard alternative.
The Proteus Smart Display is a re-usable point-of-sale display that only requires a cardboard sleeve for a new type of promotion. Scenarios differ in cycle time (weeks in cycle of the renting company), kickback, and promotion pattern. Cycle time differs from 3, 5, or 8 weeks in total in co-packing, forward- and backward transport, and at the store including some slack. Kickback is applicable in scenarios where a company, that rents a certain amount of displays for their promotions, attempts to rent out their excess displays in periods of little promotions to another company to reduce average costs. The promotion pattern is estimated together with Pure Value and consists of one pattern with two large peaks in demand, a pattern with several peaks in the year, and a pattern that is relatively flat.
